Calchaqui Valley

This trip is an unforgettable journey through a region forged by pre-Inca civilizations and colonial history, in a fantastic geography carved by wind and sun.

This is a loop, which combines two tours: Cafayate and Cachi. From Cachi we head south along mythic Route 40 , driving past  entire villages made of mud and straw which make the traveler go back to ancient times. We visit Seclantás, famous for its traditional textile Poncho artisans; Molinos, with its 18th century farmhouse and its ancient church that holds the remains of the last royal governor; then Angastaco, a prelude to the Arrows Gorge and finally San Carlos, very old town born as a Jesuit Mission. Arrival in Cafayate. On the next day, we visit wineries and then start our way back to Salta along Route 68 through the colourful Cafayate Gourge.

This trip can be performed in both directions; spending the night in Cachi or Cafayate.
